Titans Women’s Basketball Team Advances in Conference Tournament

  Macon, Ga. - March basketball started strong for the Central Georgia Technical College (CGTC) Titans as its women's basketball team earned a win Tuesday night against the Georgia Highland Chargers, in the GCAA Conference Tournament in the quarterfinals.  

The Lady Titans with overall score this season of (16-14) and conference score of (12-6), defeated the Georgia Highlands Charges 75-51. The men’s team also competed Tuesday night but lost by one point against the South Georgia Tech Jets, 54-53, to put an end to their conference tournament hopes.  

Leading scorer from the Lady Titans, sophomore, India Johnson, led the way with 23 points, 3 rebounds, and 2 assists. Also scoring double digits for the Lady Titans were sophomore Jala Hutchins with 12 points, 5 rebounds, and 4 assists, and freshman, Kimmya Epps, scoring 12 points, 4 rebounds, and 4 assists. In the victory over the Georgia Highland-Chargers 75 – 51.  

After the game, Coach Antonio Harris expressed his excitement to move forward in the postseason, saying his team must continue to be prepared for what it takes to win in March.  

“We must be resilient and learn to play through difficult situations and circumstances,” he said. “We just need to let the chips fall where they may and have no let-ups or downs, it is one and done from this point on we must buckle down and cannot have any distractions.”    

Johnson echoed Coach Harris on the mental approach to the game.  

“I felt like we played great and there were some things before the game that got our heads out of the game for a little bit,” she said. “I think we shook it off and stayed focused to get the win.”   

Update:  

The Women’s team advanced to the semifinal round of the GCAA Conference Tournament.  

As the highest remaining seed in the tournament, East Georgia State hosted the GCAA semifinals where the Lady Titans defeated the Lady Jets 73- 67 on March 15th.

Following the next round where the Lady Titans faced East Georgia State College in the finals on March 16th. The Lady Titans were defeated 76-44 in the conference finals.
