Warner Robins, Ga. – The Georgia Collegiate Athletic Associate (GCAA) recently announced the 2023-2024 Division 1 Women’s Basketball awards, naming Central Georgia Technical College (CGTC) sophomore, Jala Hutchins as Defensive Player of the Year.

Hutchins is from Midfield, Alabama (Midfield High School) and she is now a General Studies major with the Titans.

After the news was released Coach Antonio Harris was excited for the honor Hutchins is being awarded, he expressed how deserving she is, how she shows up on and off the field for her teammates always helping someone.

Jala is amazing, she’s very smart academically and goal-oriented,” he said. “One of the reasons she was named GCAA Defensive Player was because of her selfless sacrifice. She sacrificed her ability to score night in and out to defend the opposing team’s top outside scoring threat.”

Harris added that her hard work defensively helped push the team to be conference runner up this season.

“She is a joy to coach and her work ethic and energy is infectious,” he said. “Any coach would love to be around an athlete with such high character and standards.”

The aggressive five-foot-six guard/forward averaged 6.8 points per game, 4.2 rebounds, 10 blocks, and 63 steals over 31 games this season.

The Athletics Department extends congratulations to Hutchins for her accomplishments and looks forward to her continued academic and athletic success.
