CGTC Student-Athletes and Teams Earn NJCAA Academic Honors

2022-23 NJCAA All-Academic Honors

Macon, GA – The National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) recently announced its 2022-23 All-Academic Team honorees and the 2022-23 Academic Teams of the Year.

To receive all-academic team recognition, student-athletes must achieve an overall GPA of 3.60 or higher for the 2022-23 academic year. The criteria for the three All-Academic teams is as follows:

NJCAA All-Academic First Team: 4.00 GPA
NJCAA All-Academic Second Team: 3.80-3.99 GPA
NJCAA All-Academic Third Team: 3.60-3.79 GPA

2,702 student-athletes earned NJCAA All-Academic First Team honors after achieving a 4.0 GPA. 3,347 student-athletes were named to the NJCAA All-Academic Second Team, while 4,117 student-athletes received third team recognition.

Three Central Georgia Technical College (CGTC) student-athletes received all-academic team honors for the 2022-23 academic year.

The NJCAA has also announced the 2022-23 Academic Teams of the Year. This year, 1,078 teams were recognized for earning at least a 3.0 GPA or better.

For the third-consecutive year, the CGTC men's basketball program has been named an NJCAA Academic Team of the Year. The team earned a 3.12 GPA for the 2022-23 academic year.

The CGTC women's basketball team was recognized as an NJCAA Academic Team of the Year for the third time in program history. The team earned a 3.09 GPA for the 2022-23 academic year.

For the first time in program history, the CGTC women's cross country team earned the title of NJCAA Academic Team of the Year, garnering a 3.02 team GPA for the 2022-23 academic year.

"It's always an exciting moment when our student-athletes are recognized for their academic accomplishments. It takes a certain level of commitment to be a successful student-athlete, but it requires a bit more dedication and effort to receive high marks in their academic areas of study," said Cambri Steadman, CGTC director of athletics.

"While this award specifically recognizes our student-athletes, I would be remiss if I did not acknowledge the efforts and unwavering support of our athletics staff and the CGTC administration, faculty, and staff members that help our student-athletes excel in the classroom and in their respective playing fields."
