Central Georgia Technical College Women’s Basketball Closes Out 2024 with Victory Over Brenau (JV)
MACON, Ga. – Central Georgia Technical College (CGTC) Women’s Basketball secured a 68-54 victory over Brenau University (JV) on December 16 to cap off the first half of the 2024-2025 season.
Top performers for the Titans included Atiana Gilcrist, who led with 25 points, Phallan Thomas contributing 16 points, and Nia Morgan adding 15 points. The team recorded 37 rebounds, 4 assists, and 68 total points on a sluggish 34 percent shooting night to claim the well-deserved win.
After a slow start with just 10 points as a team to end the first quarter and 23 at the half, the Titans improved their shooting to double up on Brenau from its first-half scoring and end the game shooting better.
The Titans faced a challenging first half of the season, traveling to Florida multiple times to compete against top-ranked teams in preparation for the upcoming conference schedule in 2025. The rigorous schedule has helped build experience and resilience as the team looks ahead to the second half of the season.
Key season stats include an overall record of 2-7 through nine games played. The team averages 57.0 points per game, 38.9 rebounds, and 7.9 assists per game.
Sophomore point guard Sarahi Garcia said she knows the team can overcome early challenges and shared a healthy outlook for her and her teammates.
“This half of the season has been rough with injuries,” said Garcia. “We’ve just been rolling with the punches, but we did the best we could and never gave up. I’m proud of us because we played the top teams in the country, and at one point or another, we made them realize that even though it’s new coaches and players we can do a lot.”
Looking ahead to 2025, Garcia knows conference play will require an adjustment, but that she looks forward to its competitiveness.
“A lot of our conference opponents have upped their game since last year, so I’m really looking forward to how competitive it’s going to get,” she said.
Freshman Tanyia Williams echoed similar sentiments about the season’s growth period.
“Half of the season was a little rocky. We are young and still learning as well. It’s the little things we can work on at home or in the gym alone,” Williams said.
Williams highlighted the team’s focus heading into conference play as heart, hustle and determination.
The Titans will return to action on January 4, 2025, against Southern Crescent Technical College at 1 p.m. in Griffin, Ga. Their next home game is set for January 8 at 5:30 p.m., when they host South Georgia Technical College at Titan Arena in Macon.
Fans are encouraged to attend and support the Titans as they look to build on this momentum for the remainder of the season.
