Fredricka Sheats Named GCAA Women?s Player of the Year

Macon, Ga – The Georgia Collegiate Athletic Association (GCAA) revealed its 2018-2019 Division I Women's Basketball awards on Monday. Central Georgia Technical College (CGTC) sophomore Fredricka Sheats was selected as the GCAA Player of the Year and earned GCAA All-Region First Team honors.

Sheats, a five-foot-nine forward from Athens, GA, is averaging 17.4 points, 8.4 rebounds, 3.7 assists, and 2.2 steals in 27 games played this season.

"Fredricka earning Player of the Year is a tremendous accomplishment, not only for herself but the program as well. This shows the type of talent we are able to recruit and the caliber of players we can develop," said CGTC women's basketball head coach Antonio Harris. "She has worked extremely hard at defining the role of both a student and athlete. I'm grateful to have had an opportunity to coach such a special young lady."

In her freshman season, Fredricka was named the GCAA Freshman of the Year and was also named to the All-Region First Team. In 2018, Sheats was selected as a National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) All-Star and a NJCAA Honorable Mention All-American.

In 58 career collegiate games played, Sheats has scored 942 points, shooting 45.7 percent from the field and 44.3 percent from three-point range.
