Anyeuri Castillo Named GCAA Men’s Defensive Player of the Year

Anyeuri Castillo named GCAA Defensive Player of the Year, All-Region First Team member, All-Region Defensive Team member

Macon, Ga – The Georgia Collegiate Athletic Association (GCAA) revealed its 2018-2019 Division I Men's Basketball awards on Monday. Central Georgia Technical College (CGTC) sophomore Anyeuri Castillo was selected as the GCAA Defensive Player of the Year and earned GCAA All-Region First Team and GCAA All-Region Defensive Team honors.

Castillo, a six-foot-seven forward from Norcross, GA, is averaging 14.8 points, 9.3 rebounds, 2.4 assists, 2.6 blocks, and 1.2 steals in 28 games played this season.

In his freshman season, Anyeuri was selected as a GCAA All-Region Second Team and All-Freshman Team member.

"I am super excited for AC. He has really worked hard during his time here at CGTC and it has paid off," said CGTC men's basketball head coach Reco Dawson. "His growth on and off the court has been amazing. Appalachian State is getting a good one!"

In 62 career collegiate games played, Castillo has scored 806 points, shooting 56.1 percent from the field. Anyeuri has signed to continue his academic and athletic endeavors at Appalachian State University.
